I recently watched/listened to John Piper give a biography of C.S. Lewis (get it here). In it Piper referred to Lewis as having “omnivorous attentiveness.” What he meant was that Lewis sought to devour everything, to soak everything in, to not let a detail of life escape him. He paid attention. He tuned in to his surroundings. If you’ve ever read Lewis, you realize this helps explain why he could so aptly articulate the world around him. I read him and I just sense that this guy saw life much more robustly than I often do. He had a discipline of the mind that is quite enviable.
For whatever reason this phrase helped capture something I want to describe my life.
